In the middle of the 19^th century, Thailand’s first luxury hotel emerged on the banks of the Chao Phraya River to provide a haven of rest for travelers to Bangkok. Today, the hotel continues this heritage, with 11 restaurants and bars including Bamboo Bar ranked #35 on the world’s 50 Best Bars List, two swimming pools, the Oriental Spa (the only Forbes 5 star spa in Thailand) and legendary hospitality honed to an art form in the 140-plus years the hotel has been open. Furnished with Thai antiques from Chiang Mai, magnificent Persian carpets and a varied art collection, this Thai-styled suite is beautifully appointed and eminently comfortable. Large floor-to-ceiling windows open out over the river, flooding the rooms with light, while a carved lotus cornice is one of many authentic local touches. The suite features a separate living area, as well as a dining area for five guests. It also has a private balcony with a seating area overlooking the river. After renovation, the suite has been optimized for two persons instead of four persons. This two-bedroom suite is named after the famed ship (The Selandia) that in 1912 was the world's first diesel-powered ocean-going ship and completed its maiden voyage from Copenhagen to Bangkok. The Selandia suite is beautifully decorated in hues of pale ivory against a background of hazy blues and rich scarlets. Furnished with silk throughout, every detail from brass-cornered tables to plush seating exudes luxurious elegance. It features a large living and dining area and two balconies. Our jewel in the historic crown is the 306 sq. m. Royal Suite designed to suit official and security needs of discerning guests. It is decorated in sumptuous royal colors of purples and yellows that juxtapose with white marble and crystal chandeliers for an ambience of classical but understated elegance.

Le Normandie

When it opened in November 1958, the Tower Wing, now known as the Garden Wing, was regarded as an architectural masterpiece as it was one of Thailand’s tallest buildings. Atop the building was Le Normandie Grill, a long opulent room featuring a Norman-style chimney-piece topped by two rampant lions, the emblem of Normandie. Then the restaurant underwent a complete transformation in 1969, to become Le Normandie – Bangkok’s first fine dining restaurant. Le Normandie, and its Chef de Cuisine Arnaud Dunand Sauthier received 2 Michelin Stars in the inaugural Michelin Guide, Bangkok 2018, 2019 and retains its 2-star status in 2020 edition.

Lord Jim's

Boasting uninterrupted views of the river, this seafood and prime cut grill is a local institution and one of Bangkok’s most beloved places to meet. By night, Lord Jim’s transforms into a more relaxed and vibrant setting with an à la carte menu of sharing plates, sustainably-sourced fish and prime cuts of meat cooked over the wood-fired grill.

KINU by Takagi

Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok brings ‘Kyo-ryori’ cuisine to the Thai capital for the first time with the opening of KINU by Takagi, the latest addition to the hotel’s award-winning portfolio of restaurants. Under the helm of Chef Takagi Kazuo, who also owns the two-Michelin-starred Kyoto Cuisine Takagi in Ashiya, Japan, the 10-seat KINU by Takagi serves refined Kyoto-style cuisine in a traditional Japanese ‘Kaiseki’ multi-course dining experience.

The China House

A stunning, two-floor colonial-style residence has been transformed into The China House, an avant-garde restaurant inspired by the vibrant Art Deco period of 1930s Shanghai. Within this striking setting guests can enjoy classic Chinese cuisine in a refined atmosphere, while the delicious weekly dim sum menu, as well as a weekend buffet brunch, both have a loyal following.

Sala Rim Naam

Located across the river from the hotel, Sala Rim Naam is housed in a richly-decorated pavilion and offers a menu of outstanding Thai cuisine. A lavish Thai buffet lunch is served daily and guests can also enjoy a gourmet set dinner menu accompanied by the city’s most spectacular cultural performance and dance shows.

Terrace Rim Naam

Located directly opposite the hotel on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Terrace Rim Naam offers an incomparable al fresco dining experience. The à la carte menu features a selection of authentic Thai dishes where award-winning Chef Pom weaves in her own unique twists, creating remarkable and distinctive Thai dishes. Her mastery of technique and approach result in distinctive and rarely seen Thai dishes that use only the finest seasonal ingredients.

The Verandah

The Verandah's relaxing haven elevates all-day dining through a wide variety of western and Asian dishes, including much-loved Thai classics such as Pad Thai.

Overlooking the Chao Phraya River, guests can dine outdoors or indoors and choose from a generous buffet breakfast through to a full à la carte menu, available throughout the day. Freshly-baked pastries and homemade ice cream are just some of the temptations on offer for those after a sweet treat.

Riverside Terrace

Riverside Terrace sits on the banks of the famed Chao Phraya River, offering guests outside dining and the chance to watch life go by on the ‘River of Kings’ and chefs working at their interactive food stations. A lavish BBQ is prepared in front of guests. House-smoked meats, fresh seafood, open-fire rotisseries, tandoori ovens and buffet stations add to the mouth-watering selection of dishes.

Ciao Terrazza

Drawing inspiration from Italy’s age-old traditions and culinary culture, Ciao Terrazza offers modern and light re-interpretations of Mediterranean Italian dishes. At the heart is the fiery oven where artisanal pizzas are prepared, offered alongside authentic pastas and risottos, all of which are crafted with the finest produce imported from Italy and from local markets. Ciao Terrazza offers al fresco dining accompanied by spectacular views both of the ‘River of Kings’ and the original Oriental Hotel façade. At the chef’s table, groups of up to four people can watch the chefs at work from an air-conditioned area overlooking the kitchen. The menu can be tailor-made or enjoyed à la carte.

The Authors’ Lounge

The Authors’ Lounge is located on the ground floor of the original Oriental Hotel and exudes old-world charm reminiscent of the early 1900s. Turn-of-the-century-style wicker furniture and hand-painted fabrics provide the perfect accompaniment to framed photographs of many of the famous writers who have stayed at the hotel since the late nineteenth century. Renowned for its traditional afternoon tea of delicate finger sandwiches, pastries, freshly baked scones and home-made jams, The Authors’ Lounge is a truly unique setting and one of the most photographed locations in Bangkok, if not Thailand. Those looking for a small, intimate gathering may do so in one of the four private adjoining lounges.

The Bamboo Bar

From its humble beginnings in 1953, The Bamboo Bar has grown in status and reputation to become a beloved Bangkok institution frequented by jazz lovers from around the world.

The iconic spot was Bangkok’s first jazz venue and retains a 1950s ambience. Drinks and cocktails are crafted by Mandarin Oriental’s award-winning mixologist team, including their signature cocktails alongside a ‘Compass’ cocktail menu which draws inspiration from Thailand’s five regions. Live bands and internationally renowned singers perform nightly (except Sunday).

Swimming Pool

There is a choice of two swimming pools reserved exclusively for the relaxation and recreation of hotel guests, open from 6am to 8pm. A wadding pool surrounded by cabanas for relaxing dips and a 25-meter long pool, ideal for swimming laps.

The Oriental Spa

The Oriental Spa is housed in a restored, century-old teakwood house and offers an oasis of peace and tranquillity where guests can discover a range of treatments that blend ancient rituals with modern Western techniques. The Oriental Spa is the only spa in Bangkok to have been awarded 5 stars by Forbes Travel Guide.

Fitness Centre

The state-of-the-art Fitness Centre has everything you need for a total body workout with aerobic machines, weight training facilities, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. The hotel also offers personal training sessions.

Tak Bart (alms giving to monks)

In Thailand the morning ritual of giving alms to monks, known as “Tak Bart” in Thai, has a long tradition. This practice has been a part of Thai culture for centuries. Although it persists in cities, it is far more prevalent nowadays in the countryside. Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok invites guests to participate in the “Tak Bart” ritual and enjoy a truly authentic local experience. Simple yet meaningful, the act of giving alms is a heartwarming way to start one’s day.

Muay Thai

The Thai martial art known as Muay Thai (Thai boxing) has more benefits than simply physical exercise. It also has centuries of tradition behind it. Guests who wish to embrace Thai culture through wellness are encouraged to try a private Thai boxing class conducted by a former Thai boxing champion. Afterwards, guests will release their muscle tension and be pampered in the award-winning Oriental Spa with a specially designed Muay Thai Massage, inspired by the martial art. The hotel's spa therapist will provide guests with Thai boxing body oil, which is used by Thai boxers to heal their muscle pain.

Thai Cooking Class at The Oriental Thai Cooking School

To delve even deeper into Thailand’s food culture, guests might want to sign up for a Thai Cooking Class at The Oriental Thai Cooking School. It was the first Thai Cooking School in Thailand. The master Thai chef promises a fun-filled educational (and flavorful) experience, beginning with a visit to a morning fresh market, where guests will learn more about local vegetables and produce. A Thai herbs orientation will also be provided at the herbs terrace at the cooking school. Guests will learn the right (and wrong) ways to prepare authentic Thai cuisine, while receiving insightful tips from our Thai master chef.
