Amanpuri – the hospitality group's flagship property – is the resort that spawned a global army of 'Aman junkies'. Pool villas may be a dime a dozen on Phuket now, but it was here that the concept started (in 1987, but you'd never know it). The phrase 'timeless elegance' is thrown around a lot, but in no other place do the two words stand truer. The design, which features the enveloping warmth of omnipresent hardwood, borrows elements from traditional Thai temples. The vibe is one of refined luxurious intimacy, an oft-copied but rarely imitated holy grail of bespoke hospitality.

Nicolas has over two decades of experience in the luxury hospitality industry. He began his career in 1998 in the events department at the Ritz-Carlton in Sydney and spent almost a decade in Australia working for a number of leading luxury hotel brands. Nicolas first joined Aman in 2007 as Senior Assistant Manager at Amanjena in Morocco. He subsequently helped lead the opening of three Aman resorts; Aman Summer Palace in Beijing, Amangiri in Utah and Amandayan in Lijiang, China, where he took on the role of General Manager in early 2015. Later that year, Nicolas returned to Amanjena in Morocco, this time in the role of General Manager. In July 2020 Nicolas was appointed General Manager of Amanpuri, Thailand – Aman’s first resort and flagship property.
"Personally, I would recommend the walking street, which sets in a charming pocket of Phuket Old Town. This walking street is well worth a visit on any day of the week, but I recommend that you time yours to coincide with the vibrant weekly night market. On Sunday evenings the old Sino-Portuguese houses lining the street light up with bright colours as the spaces between them fill with buskers, performers, and stalls selling local food, handicrafts, clothing and souvenirs. Moreover, feel free to pass by one of my favorite coffee shops in Phuket called 'Campus Coffee Roaster'. It is situated inside Romanee Classic guesthouse, featuring a casually classic setting fitted out with wooden tables and potted plants. They tend to keep their menu fairly simple with various homemade cakes, cookies and local drip coffee."
