Accessible only by boat Our Lady of The Rocks with its magnificent interiors and fascinating museum as well as the Islet of St George in front of Perast are ones of Montenegro’s most magical destinations.
Our Lady of the Rocks a manmade island. Local legend says that in the 15th century, fishermen saw visions of Mary and vowed to drop rocks every time they passed the location. In 1632, the Roman Catholic church Our Lady of the Rocks was built atop the makeshift island. Hundreds of years later, the island grows larger every year — every July 22nd at sunset, locals sail out and throw rocks to mark the anniversary.
The Islet of St. George stretches into the bay and houses the Saint George Benedictine monastery, which dates back to the 12th century.
Award-winning Castel Savina is one such boutique family-run winery, spanning only two hectares of land in the historic Savina region. Castel Savina enjoys a prime location on the flourishing Montenegrin coast and prides itself on a 20-year record of producing a wide range of premium wine. The impeccably kept vineyard generates 20,000 bottles annually, including Merlot, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as the indigenous Žižak grape variety – a fabulous dessert wine. Visitors to Montenegro can embark on a tour of the winery, complete with wine-tasting, tapas and stunning views over the Bay of Kotor and the Adriatic Sea.
