“Cinematic Island Artistry”

Movies have been called the stuff of dreams. But what if your dream castaway isle was visualised by an architect who also happens to be a filmmaker? The result is a marine haven framed in widescreen, burnished with white sand and equatorial stars, surrounded by aquamarine ringed with reef fish. Singapore-based Capella Hotels pushed the envelope when they enlisted Brazilian starchitect Mario Kogan for Patina, whose sultry, modern tropical lines meld with design-forward luxury and a planet-minded ethos, mingling with immersive art nestled undeath swaying palms on this archipelago within an archipelago.

What we love

Storytelling, by design, is storytelling done well. All the elements of a good seafaring yarn are here: balmy barefoot luxury, in-house reef teeming with aquatic life, mellow swirling fans and hammocks swaying in all 90 ‘outside-in’ pool villas. What more could we ask for? How about visual narratives through ethereal installations by artists like James Turrell and Hongjie Yang? Or fantasy through flavours at no less than twelve different gastronomic experiences — from plant- based to Patagonian, from Scandinavia to the Aegean.

  • Salt-kissed dreams and waking up wrapped in seductive, slate-grey Frette bedlinens
  • The wellspring of serenity and radiant marine-harvested botanicals by Haeckels at Flow Spa
  • Lose yourself even more with Watsu and a Float Pod, or perhaps LED light therapy with IRIS soundscapes
