“Original luxury near Old Havana”

When everyone’s been everywhere, real authenticity becomes an increasingly rare to come by experience in the world of travel. So, having the opportunity to enjoy Cuba in all its real-life vibrancy, and to touch the way of life, is a treat in itself. The first luxury hotel to open in Havana also pays tribute to the island’s past. The hotel is housed in what was Cuba’s first European style shopping center, but just look around and you’ll see travel’s most precious moments are indeed priceless.

"Spaniard Jaime Partagás founded the oldest and most famous cigar factory (the Real Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás) in 1845.
Initially situated behind the Capitolio, the factory moved in 2013 to Centro Habana, its current location."

"Amazingly for a city by the sea, Havana has precious few places to eat with a view to the deep blue ocean. Rio Mar has a whole terrace overlooking where the Rio Almendares flows into the sea, opposite the historic 1830 Club.
Since the opening in February 2012, Rio Mar has gone straight to the top of most expatriate charts for dining options. This is on account of not just the fabulous location but also, attentive service, fabulous food and an attention to minimalist elegant décor. You can sit inside but outside of the really sweltering summer months it is the terrace that draws you in."

Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) - Bar and Club
Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) - Bar and Club
"Opened last February and sponsored by musician X-Alfonso, it’s a multidisciplinary space housed in what used to be a cooking oil plant. Concerts, visual arts, exhibitions, fashion shows, all sorts of events: if culture and, specifically, contemporary Cuban art, is your thing, this really is the place to be. Not the best bar in the city, but it is functional and you should be able to enjoy a cocktail with aguardiente – a real canchanchara, maybe – before moving on to a more sophisticated rum drink. In any case, drinks take a back seat as you’re there to enjoy the vibrant local scene. On top of that, it’s located in a marginalized area of the city that will greatly benefit from the community programs the Fábrica is setting up."

Museo de Bellas Artes - Habana Vieja
Museo de Bellas Artes - Habana Vieja
"Cuba has a huge art culture, and at this dual-site art museum you can spend a whole day viewing everything from Greek ceramics to Cuban pop art. Arranged inside the fabulously eclectic Centro Asturianas (a work of art in its own right), the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes exhibits international art from 500 BC to the present day on three separate floors. Highlights include an extensive Spanish collection (with a canvas by El Greco), some 2000-year-old Roman mosaics, and a suitably refined Gainsborough canvas (in the British room). Two blocks away, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Arte Cubano) displays purely Cuban art and, if you’re pressed for time, is the better of the duo. Works are displayed in chronological order starting on the 3rd floor and are surprisingly varied. Artists to look out for are Guillermo Collazo, considered to be the first truly great Cuban artist; Rafael Blanco with his cartoonlike paintings and sketches; Raúl Martínez, master of 1960s Cuban pop art; and the Picasso-like Wilfredo Lam."
