“Monastic village tranquility”

Once upon a time, there was a village nestled amongst bamboo groves in the lush green hills above Hangzhou. Stone courtyard dwellings lay scattered on either sides of the main stream-lined path, leading further afield to gorgeous tea fields, temples and monasteries peppered in the area. Centuries on, that village is still standing, the dwellings restored and the pervading monastic serenity proving that the most luxury of experiences lay in the most simple of surroundings.

Amanfayun

Hidden in a picturesque valley, Amanfayun brings to life a traditional Chinese village surrounded by tea fields, natural woodland and a pilgrimage circuit of seven ancient Buddhist temples. Stone pathways lead to shaded courtyards and 46 peaceful abodes, some over a century old. Situated on 14 hectares, the resort lies within walking distance of Lingyin Temple, founded in 326 AD, and is just 6km from tranquil West Lake, a Unesco World Heritage Site that inspired the poets of old with its serene waters and countless pagodas. Amanfayun is also only a 20-minute scenic drive from the centre of Hangzhou, long China’s tea and silk hub, described by Marco Polo as “The city of heaven”.
