The ‘Grande Dame of the Far East’, as The Pen’s flagship property (rightfully) bills itself, has been gracefully welcoming visitors this side east of the Suez since 1928. She doesn’t shout about her perfection – she doesn’t need to – good things come to those who seek them out. Light neutral-colored furnishings and walls elegantly lined with dark trimming, reminiscent of the luxurious travel trunks of gilded eras past. We can’t get enough of the impeccable service (and indulgent afternoon tea), which is oft copied but rarely imitated.
